The WWT station of Freudenstadt suffered from the problem, that the installed pumps of another maker kept wearing out very fast in the challenging application of a sand trap. Due to the high percentage of sand in the medium to be pumped, normal sewage pumps in grey-cast-iron construction are in terms of material too weak to withstand the abrasion.
the appilcaiton of a sand trap is by definition involving plenty of sand, hence to be considered a highly abrasive application for a pump. the customer used regular sewage pumps of another maker that kept failing due to the high wear and caused plenty of down time and maintenance cost. The customer asked Tsurumi whether there could be a better solution.
Tsurumi offered and installed a KRS2-80 in the sand trap of the WWT station. This pump is particularly designed for harsh applications with challenging media. Due to the fact, that the KRS2-80 is an agitator pump with high chromium-iron casted hydraulics and additionally comes with an agitator that helps to unify the medium in regards of percentage between sand and water, the pump is usually oversized for the application. The installation of the KRS2-80 resulted in a, compared to the competitor units formerly offered, massively increased lifetime of the products and no disturbances in the treatment process anymore due to unnecessary maintenance works.
In the event of abrasive and corrosive utilization, stronger wear and tear will take place naturally in certain components. With regards to the above application wear and tear can take place mainly in impeller, agitator, suction plate, shaft sleeve, oil ring, mechanical seal, pump casing, strainer, motor casing and discharge coupling. Depending on the working conditions the lifetime of those parts might vary significantly and can be shorter than the legal warranty period.
