Clean-up at old factory

Tsurumi was contacted by SUEZ company to support with the decontamination of the soils of the former FORD site in Bordeaax, where they manufactured gearboxes for trucks and cars. The grounds were heavily polluted with oil and hydrocarbons that mixed with water and sand. Furthermore, there were limitations to the piping available, hence pumps had to be selected carefully. However, the biggest challenge was that every cleaning cycle, once started, had to finish as a malfunction would cause additional work.

Tsurumi support
Tsurumi France and a technician from Tsurumi Europe supported locally on site with electrical connections, training as well as general advice on the setup.

The problem

Several hard requirements on site.

#1 Cleaning cycles, once started, had to finish without breakdowns.

#2 The contaminated water was highly abrasive

#3 Piping was limited e.g. supply of rinser screen was equipped with 400 meters of piping. The feeding pump had to supply 3 to 4 bar pressure at all times.

The solution

Tsurumi supported with the correct pump selection for the process. For heavy abrasive parts of the projects heavy duty drainage pumps like KRS or KTZ were recommended, For high pressure process sections of the process LH units were installed.

The rinser screen which was equipped with 400 meter piping, requiring 3-4 bar pressure, am LH845 was installed.

LH422 was used in a closed circuit (it pushes back on itself with a pipe laid at the bottom of the basin with several valves open) to agitate the particles avoiding settlement at the bottom of the basin. KTZ and PU pumps were placed in cells to pump contaminated water contaminated to the LH422 and LH845 basins.

In the event of abrasive and corrosive utilization, stronger wear and tear will take place naturally in certain components. With regards to the above application wear and tear can take place mainly in impeller, agitator, suction plate, shaft sleeve, oil ring, mechanical seal, pump casing, strainer, motor casing and discharge coupling. Depending on the working conditions the lifetime of those parts might vary significantly and can be shorter than the legal warranty period.

In this regard, please pay attention to our general terms and conditions that we also send to you by mail on request.
