Clogging At Pump Station

A Hungarian customer´s pump stations were constantly clogging due to wastewater containing highly fibrous materials. This caused a lot of process failures, high maintenance and energy costs.

The problem

Wastewater often carries blockage solids and other fibrous materials. The customer operates many sewage stations in Hungary. They used to operate many pumps of another manufacturer. These sewage pumps were clogging up due to the very high solids content and fibrous materials, and they had to be dismounted for cleaning several times usually every day. Pumping of this kind of wastewater requires the use of pumps with cutter mechanism.Cutter pumps of other manufactuers failed and had been finally dismounted after a month, thanks to the extreme quantity of long-fibrous materials.

The solution

Verbis Kft. offered 6 months long trial-period for the use of the Tsurumi pumps. Through the use of the pump type 100C42.2 with a cutting mechanism, blockage-free pumping was guaranteed. The pumps were installed with the use of special guide rail adapters produced locally, so no modification was carried out. The project had passed a five months trial without any clogging, saving a huge amount of money for the customer. Moreover the energy consumption got reduced by 15%, thanks to the clogging-free operation.

In the event of abrasive and corrosive utilization, stronger wear and tear will take place naturally in certain components. With regards to the above application wear and tear can take place mainly in impeller, agitator, suction plate, shaft sleeve, oil ring, mechanical seal, pump casing, strainer, motor casing and discharge coupling. Depending on the working conditions the lifetime of those parts might vary significantly and can be shorter than the legal warranty period.
