A stone quarry in Germany faced the task of relocating water, essential to its operations, from an intermediate sump to the ultimate discharge point. Overcoming approximately 400 meters, the quarry employed a Tsurumi KRS 65.5 booster pump, delivering an effective solution to the customer's needs. Tsurumi's cutting-edge design enables their pumps to excel even when not submerged, enhancing their versatility and enabling uninterrupted operation in challenging applications.
The challenge of this particluar application was the long distance of 400 meters as well as the medium, water loaded with sand, a very abrasive combination.
KRS65.5 is a heavy duty pump which can handle abrasive medium easily. Additional benefit in this case was the capability of dry installation/booster which allowed for perfect efficiency and excellent longevity.
In the event of abrasive and corrosive utilization, stronger wear and tear will take place naturally in certain components. With regards to the above application wear and tear can take place mainly in impeller, agitator, suction plate, shaft sleeve, oil ring, mechanical seal, pump casing, strainer, motor casing and discharge coupling. Depending on the working conditions the lifetime of those parts might vary significantly and can be shorter than the legal warranty period.
