An open-cast mine in Cyprus produces extremely acidic seepage water with a pH value between 2 and 3. Pumps from different manufacturers only lasted two weeks to a maximum of three months in test operation. Therefore they were looking for a mobile submersible pump that would function permanently under the extreme conditions and be as maintenance-free as possible.

The problem

Acidic seepage water with a pH value between 2 and 3. Pumps from different manufacturers only lasted two weeks to a maximum of three months in test operation.

The solution

Tsurumi introduced its stainless steel SFQ23.7 submersible pump. This pump has now been running permanently in the acidic medium for several years in snore operation at various locations. Its condition is still excellent.

In the event of abrasive and corrosive utilization, stronger wear and tear will take place naturally in certain components. With regards to the above application wear and tear can take place mainly in impeller, agitator, suction plate, shaft sleeve, oil ring, mechanical seal, pump casing, strainer, motor casing and discharge coupling. Depending on the working conditions the lifetime of those parts might vary significantly and can be shorter than the legal warranty period.
