Tsurumi Pumps in Action: Water Diversion at the Gorges du Verdon

Published on 06.11.2025

In the Gorges du Verdon, one of France's most famous gorges, an ambitious construction project is currently underway: a 250-metre bypass is being built to secure a tunnel. Before excavation could even begin, a major challenge had to be overcome — the diversion of an impressive 180,000 cubic metres of water.

The team from Tsurumi France took on this demanding task with precision and determination. Over the course of a week, the team prepared the site by lowering three series of Tsurumi pumps 22 metres below ground level, installing pipes for horizontal water drainage (with a 21-metre height difference), setting up settling basins, and completing all electrical connections.

On Tuesday, 3 September, at 8:30 a.m., the pumps were started:

One GSZ, two KRD and three LH models, each designed for extreme operating conditions, worked continuously and reliably until Thursday, 5 September, at 1:30 a.m. By that time, 90,000 cubic metres of water had already been successfully pumped out — the remainder drained away naturally by gravity.

This impressive operation once again demonstrates the reliability, strength and endurance of Tsurumi pumps – even under the toughest environmental conditions.
