In the Gorges du Verdon, one of France's most famous gorges, an ambitious construction project is currently underway: a 250-metre bypass is being built to secure a tunnel. Before excavation could even begin, a major challenge had to be overcome — the diversion of an impressive 180,000 cubic metres of water.
The team from Tsurumi France took on this demanding task with precision and determination. Over the course of a week, the team prepared the site by lowering three series of Tsurumi pumps 22 metres below ground level, installing pipes for horizontal water drainage (with a 21-metre height difference), setting up settling basins, and completing all electrical connections.
On Tuesday, 3 September, at 8:30 a.m., the pumps were started:
One GSZ, two KRD and three LH models, each designed for extreme operating conditions, worked continuously and reliably until Thursday, 5 September, at 1:30 a.m. By that time, 90,000 cubic metres of water had already been successfully pumped out — the remainder drained away naturally by gravity.
This impressive operation once again demonstrates the reliability, strength and endurance of Tsurumi pumps – even under the toughest environmental conditions.

Tsurumi has taken another important step toward sustainability and climate protection by installing a large-scale photovoltaic (PV) system at its manufacturing facility in Kyoto, Japan.
The new solar installation consists of 1,430 modules with a total output of approximately 844 kW. It generates around 810,000 kWh of electricity per year, covering roughly 15.3% of the plant's annual energy requirements. By utilizing this clean energy, the factory will reduce its CO₂ emissions by over 340 tonnes annually.
A key feature of the system is its integrated battery storage unit, which provides backup power during outages and serves as an emergency power source.
With this investment, Tsurumi reinforces its commitment to sustainable manufacturing, energy efficiency, and environmental responsibility. The project is part of the company's broader initiative to minimize its ecological footprint and expand the use of renewable energy across all operations.

Exactly one year ago today, we at #Tsurumi reached another milestone in our 101-year history with the commissioning of our new motor factory in Kyoto: Covering an area of just over 13,000 square metres, we assemble motors for our high-performance submersible pumps with a wide power range from 0.4 to 350 kW and manufacture many motor components ourselves, such as our stator windings.
The use of state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies enables extremely high machining accuracy based on 3D CAD data. Our flexible manufacturing system and a high degree of automation using robot technology – for example in the manufacture of motor shafts and in intralogistics – ensure exceptional efficiency. At the same time, the new factory has also significantly expanded our capacity for testing and verifying the performance of our pumps.
We have invested a high double-digit million Euro amount in this project: an investment that is paying off because it allows us to optimally prepare for a sustainable future with low-emission, durable motors in premium quality 'Made in Japan' – to the benefit of our customers.

This coming Friday, September 26, at 11 a.m. (CEST), take about 30 minutes to join us for a new #Tsurumi online training session! Our technical experts will discuss the importance of pipe type and inner diameter in the design of submersible pumps.
Why is this so important for you? Because the choice of pipe type and internal diameter determines the efficiency and service life of submersible pumps. This is because they influence the hydraulic resistance and flow conditions.
Empirical data from practical experience shows that pipes with too small a diameter or made of unsuitable materials lead to increased pressure loss and, in extreme cases, to cavitation. The pump becomes overloaded, and its service life is shortened.
For example, a pipe that was too small (DN50 instead of DN80) in a sewage system doubled energy consumption and caused frequent failures due to overheating. Conversely, a correctly dimensioned pipe in a similar application reduced maintenance costs by 30% and extended the service life of the pump by two years.
In the live training session, we explain how to find the right pipes for your Tsurumi pump and the respective application. This is an important topic that you should not miss. We appreciate your interest! Use this link to join the free livestream on September 26:

We are in the midst of man-made climate change. Summers are getting hotter worldwide, with long dry spells alternating with increasingly extreme rainfall events. In this world, it is important to take measures to slow down climate change. On the other hand, we must also adapt to the new reality. How do we deal with sudden heavy rainfall? When basements flood and sewers become overloaded?
Fire brigades, the construction industry and an increasing number of private users have been placing their trust in our #Tsurumi LSC flat suction pumps for many years. These are very compact, lightweight pumps that can be quickly transported to the site of operation with one hand – and start working immediately. Extremely easy to operate, the LSC pumps water down to a residual height of one millimetre. And anyone who has ever had to pump water out of a basement knows how long it takes to reach such a minimal water level.
In a short video, we show you how to start up the LSC and (rarely) maintain it: https://youtu.be/EpUYu4_vKjc?si=8meyKGAX1wXlwhl_

The so-called PID control (PID: proportional, integral, derivative) plays an important role in the legendary durability and energy efficiency of #Tsurumi pumps.
It offers users a major advantage in process control, as it continuously monitors the deviation between a desired setpoint and a process variable and adjusts the system's response as precisely as possible to the setpoint. In this way, the PID control in our pumps helps to save energy and extends service life.
We have recorded an online #training course on this topic. You can watch it in our #YouTube channel:

In Italy, at our partner Dragflow we trained 12 experts and customers on #Tsurumi pumps over two days! The comprehensive programme included a large theoretical section and, of course, practical work on selected pumps!
First, we provided information on:
- our company
- the Tsurumi product portfolio with technical features
- differences in hydraulics
- applications in tunnel construction
- special applications such as booster/jetting
- our TRN submersible aerators
For the practical part, we randomly selected three rental pumps that had been returned shortly before. Therefore, we did not know what condition they would be in until we opened the pumps.
An LSC1.4S ran continuously for many years without maintenance, which is normal for Tsurumi pumps. Everything, including the motor, was in good condition; only the check valve and base plate had to be replaced.
An LH311W had been operating in salty seawater for two months. It was in good condition, only the sacrificial anodes in the strainer had to be replaced.
And in the case of a KRS822 after 12 months in salt water, the electrical parts were also in good condition. The hydraulic parts had to be replaced and serviced due to prolonged use in salt water.
The participants enjoyed dismantling and inspecting the pumps and carrying out the maintenance tasks. And we were happy to once again impart valuable knowledge about pumps!
Are you also interested in on-site training with our pump professionals? Then please send us an e-mail: sales@tsurumi.eu
We have once again added to the #FAQ here on our #Tsurumi #website. In addition to all the previous interesting topics, we now also answer these frequently asked questions:
- What type of threaded connection do Tsurumi pumps generally have on the pressure ports?
- Are pump models available with a PTC sensor?
- Are all types of stainless steel resistant to seawater?
- Which Tsurumi pumps are made entirely of stainless steel? Where are they mainly used?
- Why do bearings in pumps break?

With the #Tsurumi guide rail systems, our pumps can be easily connected, moved up and down and removed again. Each system consists of rails or channels that connect the pump to the pipework. When the pump is lowered or raised, it slides along the rails - connected to an outlet pipe.
The guide rail systems simplify maintenance and reduce the risk of extended downtime. Unlike fixed pipework systems, which can take several hours to install and assemble, a pump on a guide rail is ready for operation more quickly.
Guide rail systems are particularly important in wet wells or sumps. For lifts deeper than four and a half metres, we recommend using a direct guide rail mount for added stability and smoother pump removal. Material selection is an important factor when choosing a guide rail system. Depending on the type of liquid being pumped, the rails can be made of stainless steel, cast iron or high-density polyethylene.
We are happy to answer your questions about the different types of our guide rails. Simply write to us at: sales@tsurumi.eu

#Tsurumi pumps can be operated automatically in two ways: Via activation by a float switch or via an electrode.
Float switch
Float switches are often used where the performance of a pump is to depend on the water level. The switch is located in a piston that floats on the surface of the water. When the water level rises or falls, the float moves into position and opens or closes an internal switch that controls the pump's output.
Electrode
An electrode sensor recognises water based on its conductivity. It activates the pump when it is submerged under water. Unlike float switches, electrode sensors do not rely on mechanical movements. Instead, they utilise the natural conductivity of water to trigger an electrical reaction. Electrode sensors are permanently mounted directly on the pump. Ideal for installations where space is limited or a float mechanism could be blocked.

Recently, our colleagues at @Tsurumi USA, in collaboration with Zone Industries, supported the development of a new launch pad for space rockets with our high-performance power units.
When a rocket is launched, its engines emit large flames. To cool the rocket, protect the concrete launch pad and absorb the resulting sound energy, a spray system releases thousands of litres of water during the launch. Most of the water turns into vapour, while the rest has to be pumped out.
To avoid this problem of evaporation, a newly designed spray system nicknamed the 'Booster Bidet' has been developed. This system delivers a powerful jet of over 360,000 litres of water within eight seconds. The water is fed through pipes from tanks pressurised with nitrogen. Finally, #Tsurumi high-pressure pumps from the KRS and LH series discharge the overflow water from the flame trench. In this way, the site is quickly prepared for repeated start-up cycles.
With more frequent launches into space, Tsurumi's pumps will play a relevant role in keeping the infrastructure intact and the missions on schedule.
The specifications of the KRS and LH series can be found on our website, of course. If you are interested in these pumps, we will be happy to advise you - just contact us via e-mail: sales@tsurumi.eu

The inrush current is generally limited during the soft start of a motor. Among other things, this prevents a voltage dip under heavy loads. At the same time, the mechanical components in the device are protected from excessive acceleration.
For these reasons, we use soft starters in our #Tsurumi pumps - whenever the direct start or the star/delta start are not suitable.
In a training video, we show how we use them to extend the service life of our pumps. You will learn more about:

The LH12185D offers a maximum flow rate of 14000 l/min and a maximum delivery head of 85 m - ideal for mining and #tunnelling work. The special feature: The LH12185D can suck in large quantities of water from both the upper and lower side of the double suction impeller. This reduces the thrust load, which extends the service life of the bearings and increases the stability of the pump operation. To withstand the tough operating conditions, the impeller is made of wear-resistant, high-chromium cast iron.
Details on the LH series can be found on this website: https://www.tsurumi.eu/products/drainage/lh-161

A technological highlight in over 100 years of #Tsurumi history is the development of the oil lifter in 1998, which is partly responsible for the legendary reliability and reliability of our units. Our engineers in Japan invented this component, which is positioned around the mechanical seal and ensures optimum lubrication of the upper seal faces. This works even if the lubricant is reduced to up to 1/3 of the nominal volume.
Pumps without oil lifters displace the lubricating oil to the outside. This quickly leads to bearing damage. In all Tsurumi pumps, the oil lifter ensures that the mechanical seals are permanently lubricated. This extends the service life of the mechanical seal. In addition, the combination of double inner mechanical seal and oil lifter prevents seal damage during dry running. Since then, even when a Tsurumi is aligned horizontally, the seal faces remain lubricated, which contributes to the longevity of the pump and ensures maximum performance when working in any position.
This video shows what makes the Tsurumi oil lifter so unique:

Pumping #wastewater that contains contaminants with fibrous substances? Where conventional pumps fail, the #Tsurumi CZ series is in its element: The submersible pumps have a cutting and shredding function in a unique design: A heart-shaped suction opening with a sharp-edged fixed cutting blade combined with a semi-open channel impeller, which is also equipped with two sharp-edged blades, results in a scissor-like shredding mechanism.
This innovation enhances the CZ pump's ability to deal with larger debris. Clogging of the pump is thus prevented by a mix of shredding and crushing.
Attention! These models are now available from stock in Europe:
100CZ45.5 (5.5 kW), 100CZ47.5 (7.5 kW), 100CZ411 (11 kW) and 100CZ415 (15 kW)
The CZ series is presented here in the video:

Damaged cables are one of the main causes of pump failures. This is because capillary action can cause water to penetrate the cables, leading to insulation breakdowns, short circuits and costly repairs.
We at #Tsurumi have something to prevent this: our innovative anti-wicking cable entry system! This means that moisture can no longer penetrate, even with damaged cables. You benefit from minimal maintenance and maximum efficiency.
To see how the anti-wicking system is designed and how it works watch this video:

The process water of a plastic recycling plant naturally has a high proportion of plastics. This water must be collected and pumped by suitable pumps. Conventional shredding pumps repeatedly failed to perform this task. The solution for the customer was to switch to the hashtag#Tsurumi C series - one of the most reliable series in the market.
The 80C21.5 were able to pump the medium without any problems. A total of eight cutter pumps were installed in different basins to gradually remove the solids from the water so that it can be fed back into the recycling process.
All pumps are controlled by level sensors that keep the water in all containers at the same level, regardless of changes in the water inflow. By keeping the water level low, the pumps can collect more of the light solids that tend to accumulate on the water surface.
We have linked the specifications of the C series for you in the comment below this post.
